In the past couple of years I have learned to start giving away books, I feel there is much more value in sharing them than hoarding them, especially the ones I will never read again.

We just did some housecleaning because our apartment is way too crowded. I managed to find five books to part with, and I thought it was an accomplishment to end all accomplishment. I focused my donations on books that were pure fluff (yes, I really did read Bergdorf Blondes. No, I really, really don't need it on my shelf for life) and books I simply didn't like (looking at you, Tom Robbins).

In preparation for move/downsizing apartment, books are being put on the chopping block around our place right now. So sad. I find that it alleviates my conscience (and almost human-relationship attachment to books) if I send them to a good home. So I've been shipping and handing off those novels I've read and liked, but not loved, to friends, family and friends of friends. If I can imagine someone else reading a book, it's easier to part with. Utter sentimentality. Of course there are the 4 copies I have of Immortal Poems of the English Language, that I can't seem to part with ...
