What book would you take out to dinner?
For the New York Times, Leanne Shapton asked a dozen authors to share their ideal dining companions. (Thanks, Kathryn, for the link.)
Me, I’d treat Who Will Run the Frog Hospital? to La Lunchonette and a musical. It eats brains and knows all the lyrics.

I’d like to have dinner with Jay Gatsby where he wears one of those lavendar shirts and white suits and wing-tips and while his hair isn’t blond, it’s casual and a lock of it falls forward almost over one eye. And it’s very disingenuous.
Mm, I want Unaccustomed Earth to insist on taking me to its mother-in-law’s house for homemade naan and chana masala. We could sit together in the corner and whisper about the other guests.
