Nice article about a nice reading. Simon's studio is exotic, and the readings are unlike any other, but it's also one of the friendliest places in Pittsburgh. Not only is it not held in a sterile university campus hall or in a loud coffee shop or something, it's in a neighborhood a lot of us don't visit except when going to the reading series or to the incredible art events on Gist Street, so it's good for the neighborhood too. The audience is totally attentive, and they even buy books! Some people come from out of town, get a cheap hotel room downtown from Hotwire, and use the opportunity to get to know Pittsburgh's museums and arts scene. I highly recommend it, but yes, make sure you get there AT LEAST a half hour early, otherwise you're likely to only find a locked door and a "we're full" sign on the door.
