Sponsored by the Virginia G. Piper Center for Creative Writing at Arizona State University, the Desert Nights, Rising Stars returns March 3-6, 2011. The conference brings writers of all levels together for four days in Tempe to study fiction, poetry, or creative nonfiction. Participants have the opportunity to hone their craft in the classroom with distinguished writers, sharing dialogue during classes, readings, and other events. Master Classes add five hours of morning instruction, spread over three days, in a group of no more than ten. This allows an experience that is both intimate and affordable.
The 2011 conference faculty includes Tiffany Atkinson, Andrea Barrett, Robert Boswell, Gretel Ehrlich, Beckian Fritz Goldberg, Tony Hoagland, Cynthia Hogue, Tara Ison, Victor LaValle, Naeem Murr, Antonya Nelson, Jem Poster, David Shields, Connie Voisine and C. Dale Young. Additional guests include Sally Ball, Norman Dubie, Lucy Hawking, Melissa Pritchard, Jewell Parker Rhodes, and Alberto Rios.
Tuition rates are $350 for four days, plus $125 for Master Classes. But if you register by Oct. 31, the tuition rate is only $315. And current MFA students (in any program) can register for just $280. Final Registration deadline is January 28, 2011.
