May is Short Story Month – 2022 Edition

Join us for our fourteenth-annual celebration of the short story, as we dedicate the month of May to short fiction.

Today we kick off our fourteenth-annual celebration of Short Story Month, dedicating our May content exclusively to the short form. As always, we’ve lined up some wonderful features:

  • Interviews with such writers as Barrett Bowlin, Lydia Conklin, Holly Goddard Jones, and Michelle Ross.
  • Reviews of recent or upcoming story collections by Gabriela Alemán, Morgan Talty, and others.
  • Essays on “ornament” in fiction, logic and revolution in Wang Xiaobo’s The Golden Age, and more.

Plus, appreciations for work by Aimee Bender, Megan Mayhew Bergman, Tamas Dobozy, Deesha Philyaw, and Steven Scwartz in our “Stories We Love” series.

We hope you’ll join us regularly throughout the next few weeks, and that you’ll help us spread the word.

In the meantime, here’s a 2011 guest post from Dan Wickett of The Emerging Writers Network and Dzanc Books on the origins of Short Story Month.
