Hanna Pylväinen grew up in the metro Detroit area with her four sisters and three brothers. She is a graduate of Mount Holyoke College and the University of Michigan, where she is now a Zell Postgraduate Fellow. Frequent rereads of hers include Song of Solomon, Anna Karenina, and A Thousand Years of Good Prayers.
